Wow.

Oh, so many complaints. Perhaps it's my modern-day eye. But I thought it wasn't worth watching during my first through through the show and it turns out I feel the same way now.

Though it's nice to hear the origin of the description of the Eye of Harmony, which is used in, I believe, Neverland from Big Finish.

I know this is negative. I especially like the interplay between Barbara and the Doctor. She calls him on the carpet for his imperious, irresponsible behavior (and quite rightly), and even forces him to grow (a smidge) at the end. And, despite the smile on Barbara's face as she takes his arm at the story's end, I don't think for a moment she is just "forgiving and forgetting." I think Jacqueline Hill imbues Barbara with as much depth as 1960s teatime TV for kiddies would allow. Nowhere near as terrible a story as others would have you believe!Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02363158930596606463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825355310180329162.post-69582840066451959142013-11-30T09:55:12.506-07:002013-11-30T09:55:12.506-07:00I've really enjoyed coming back to this story ...I've really enjoyed coming back to this story after watching Night of the Doctor. By and large you only need to watch the first ten minutes of episode one, if back-references is your goal, but this story is such a pleasure, for reasons you've already covered well, that the story flies by.

What's funny is that only when I saw Morbius come alive, and see the naked arm move did I realize it was just the actor's arm in the costume, rather than Condo's. A new entry! 2) The scene in the pub also wonderfully illustrates the honor-based distinction Morgaine draws between the "warrior maid" Lavel, who is marked for death, and Elizabeth, who must be treated with respect--and even compensated--as a non-combatant. It's this distinction, shown most clearly here, the sets up the ultimate resolution to the story.Erikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11872984060680282164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825355310180329162.post-12775840130533803442013-05-23T16:19:21.182-06:002013-05-23T16:19:21.182-06:00I think Jean Marsh and Nicholas Courtney spend mor...I think Jean Marsh and Nicholas Courtney spend more time together in this episode than they did in the Daleks' Master Plan!

The Brig should always be in a helicopter.TansyRRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09411830162058361645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825355310180329162.post-11929660337928710902013-03-15T15:53:48.674-06:002013-03-15T15:53:48.674-06:00I agree one hundred percentI agree one hundred percentAlexander Gordon Jahanshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06675324400472067460noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825355310180329162.post-45211150554252547382013-03-15T15:47:34.498-06:002013-03-15T15:47:34.498-06:00Ah yes, I think it was seeing this scene in DWM...Ah yes, I think it was seeing this scene in DWM's 200 moments of Doctor Who that made me pick Remembrance of the Dalek's as a birthday present. I doubt he'll ever be my favorite, but he might just be the best. Or perhaps it's just that his stories, more than any other televised Doctors, truly run a huge range of tone and expect much more proper "acting" than some others. Hartnell never fell back onto playing "the Doctor," because he couldn't--he was defining what that meant with every choice he made, and all his successors owe him a debt for it.Erikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11872984060680282164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825355310180329162.post-85754919910193995132013-03-06T16:38:40.474-07:002013-03-06T16:38:40.474-07:00Now that this episodes has been found, I request, ...Now that this episodes has been found, I request, nay, demand that you watch it and update this blog post. So here's the thing I can't handle: the supporting cast is by and large caricatures more than characters. There's the weird lingo: "Rezzie" for resident, for instance. "Ice Hot!" It doesn't sound unworldly. It sounds contrived. Then there's this way that everyone speaks in unison. Mel represents the audience in that through her we see how bizarre everything is. I know Mel is disliked, but I don't mind her at all here.konberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04616226121996611123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825355310180329162.post-8037773472087841122012-10-14T20:47:14.579-06:002012-10-14T20:47:14.579-06:00The first time I watched this story I was left und...The first time I watched this story I was left underwhelmed, mostly because I was excited to see Alexei Sayle who had a fairly meaningless role, and focused more on Tasembeker and Jobel, two characters that we could have done without. Upon second viewing, I focused more on Davros, Orcini and Bostock, three thoroughly enjoyable portrayals, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish Orcini and Bostock could appear in other stories, or even on their own (though they're not exactly the double act of Jago and Lightfoot, or perhaps, ahem, Kara and her assistant.)

You're right that the story is too long; had they removed the DJ and Jobel, they might have had a nice tight story.konberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04616226121996611123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825355310180329162.post-51055116043184747382012-10-07T20:21:33.800-06:002012-10-07T20:21:33.800-06:00I just rewatched this and found it much more enjoy...I just rewatched this and found it much more enjoyable the second time around.
